Sibling Adoption
Many of the children who are waiting to be adopted are in sibling groups.
We appreciate that thinking about adopting siblings can be overwhelming, but we invite prospective adopters coming into the process to keep an open mind about opening their hearts and homes to two or more children at once.
Where possible we will always try and keep sibling groups together and that’s because there are lots of benefits to adopting siblings:
siblings who are adopted together can support each other throughout the transition period, meaning they settle quicker
being adopted with a sibling can help maintain a child’s sense of identity
having a shared history, background and identity with another sibling can help bolster a child’s emotional and personal development in the long term
for adopters, it means they will only have to go through the process once to complete their family
Sadly, sibling groups wait on average seven months longer than single children to find a loving home.
Nobody Knows Me Better
In 2025, Adoption Counts worked alongside other Regional and Voluntary Adoption Agencies to help raise awareness of the need for more adopters to consider siblings.
The Nobody Knows Me Better campaign featured the voices of real siblings who have been adopted across the North West of England, sharing their heart-felt views on why being a sibling was important to them.
