About Adoption Counts
Adoption Counts was launched in 2017, having brought the professional expertise and specialist skills of the adoption services of five local authorities from across Greater Manchester and Cheshire. By going regional, the scale of our organisation means that we are able to forge better matches between parents and children, to create strong relationships that last.
Your family is our focus and our team is passionate about giving you the very best care and support at every stage of the adoption journey, to achieve the best outcome both for you and for children awaiting adoption.
Why choose Adoption Counts?
The children are in our care: as Local Authorities we are directly responsible for children who have a plan of adoption, and our adopters are always considered first. Since April 2024, 97% of the children in our area have been placed with our adopters, rather than with adopters from another region or voluntary agency.
The region we cover is large: we work across the Local Authorities for Manchester, Cheshire East, Stockport, Salford and Trafford. Working collectively means we have a large pool of children waiting, so matches can be made quickly, and we make matches across the geographical area.
We are experienced: over the years we have created over 500 families. Children’s social workers work and our family finders have years of experience in working together, which enables us to make strong matches in the best interest of both the child and your family.
We work to national standards: where stage 1 should be completed in two months and stage 2 in four months. So you have the potential to have a child with you within 6-12 months.
Our post-adoption support is extensive: if you’re matched with one of our children, you will have a seamless transition to our Adoption Support services. These are available to all our adoptive families as much or as little as you need them.
We are child-focused: our team will always strive to do what’s in the best interest for the children who are in our care and that means investing heavily into our adopters through their training, in expert matching and in post-adoption support. We are here to support you every step of the way as we know that’s what our children need us to do.
“We found Adoption Counts so welcoming, warm and supportive. Everyone there had our back from the off and they explained everything clearly.”
Our commitment to equality and diversity
Adoption Counts is committed to equality and diversity to ensure that every child, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to grow up in a loving and supportive environment.
This commitment involves actively promoting inclusive practices that respect and celebrate differences in race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation and abilities. Our experienced team works hard to ensure that our policies and procedures are fair and equitable.
We welcome applicants from a diverse range of ethnic backgrounds and seek to place our children from a global majority heritage in homes which celebrate their ethnicity. We are dedicated to addressing issues raised by the Black Lives Matter movement and we stand against all forms of racism; whether overt, insidious, individual, or institutional.
