LGBTQ+ adoption

At Adoption Counts we are very proud that last year 1 in 3 of the families that we matched were LGBTQ+. This is well above the national average of 1 in 4 in England.

Sexual orientation does not affect your application to adopt, and it does not matter if you are single, in a civil partnership, married or co-habiting – all applications are treated equally.

Why so many rainbow families?

We know that LGBTQ+ people can be well-placed to adopt a child due to their unique experiences and perspectives. Adopters from the LGBTQ+ community often have a deep appreciation of diversity, resilience, empathy and acceptance, all of which are valuable when parenting an adopted child.

From our years of experience we also understand the concerns that LGBTQ+ people might have coming into adoption and our experienced social workers can go through these with you.

Working with others

In line with our commitment to creating LGBTQ+ families, we are one of New Family Social’s LGBTQ+ friendly agencies and so if you adopt with us you automatically get Gold Membership with them.

We are also proud partners of Proud2beParents, the organisation that supports LGBTQ+ carers, parents and parents to be in Greater Manchester and across the North West.

As a regional adoption agency we attend the Pride events across Manchester and Cheshire East and we are always delighted to see so many of the families we’ve been privileged to be a part of creating.
