National Adoption Week 2024

If you have ever considered adoption, but not yet taken the first step…this is your chance. It’s National Adoption Week! Find out more below…

A message from Gail Spray, Head of Service at Adoption Counts:

"As we mark National Adoption Week in 2024, it's more important than ever to recognise the urgent need for more adoptive families. With the number of prospective adopters steadily declining, many vulnerable children are facing longer waits to find a stable, loving home. Every child deserves the chance to grow up in a supportive family environment, and adoption can provide that life-changing opportunity when this is not possible within their birth  family. We are calling on communities and individuals to support National Adoption Week and help raise awareness of the profound difference that adopting can make, not just in a child's life, but in society as a whole. Now, more than ever, we need compassionate individuals to step forward and explore the possibility of adoption. Together, we can help ensure that every child has the family they deserve."

There’s no such thing as a ‘normal’ family, say 65 per cent of Brits –
as National Adoption Week highlights adoption journeys of all kinds.

There’s no such thing as a ‘normal’ family, according to 65 per cent of Brits – this comes as National Adoption Week (21-27 October) has launched today to increase understanding of modern adoption and show that ‘the journey to a family is not always a traditional one’.

Latest data from Adoption England shows there has been a 22 per cent increase in the number of children with a plan for adoption not yet matched with an adoptive family in England in 2023-4, compared to the previous year. With fewer potential adopters coming forward – believed to largely be a result of the cost-of-living crisis - this means that nearly half (47 per cent) of all children face delays of over 18 months to be placed with an adoptive family.
