Start your adoption journey

If you think adoption is right for you and your family, it’s time to find out more. As you’ll understand, the adoption process is very thorough as it is in everyone’s best interests to ensure that you are fully able and prepared to become an adoptive parent.

Your journey will begin as soon as you consider giving a child a loving home, and we’ll be there to guide you through the whole process.

At each stage both you and the agency will be able to review whether adoption is right for you and your family. You can always discuss any concerns with us.

What to think about

Before deciding to adopt, it is crucial to consider various factors and ensure that you are fully prepared for the responsibilities and challenges of parenting.

Reflect on your reasons for wanting to adopt and consider your readiness for the emotional, practical, and financial aspects of parenting. Think about your ability to meet the specific needs of the child you intend to adopt.

The adoption process can be lengthy and unpredictable. Be prepared for potential uncertainties throughout the process. Patience, resilience, and flexibility are essential qualities to navigate the adoption journey.

Adoption is a big decision…and it could be the best one you ever make.

What happens before you register your interest

After you have attended one of our virtual information events, and if you feel like you are ready to start the journey, we’ll then organise a more in-depth conversation so that we can gauge your initial thoughts and answer any questions you may have.

Following this, we will arrange an Initial Meeting with a Social Worker or Recruitment Manager.

We will chat to you about your background, current circumstances, health and home life. It will help us to give you advice about your readiness to move on to the application stage.

If you decide to proceed further, we will ask you to complete a Registration of Interest to enter Stage 1.

Your application

Prospective adopters go through a rigorous assessment process to determine their suitability for adoption. This process includes background checks, interviews, home visits, and references. Prospective adopters are also required to attend adoption preparation and training courses to gain an understanding of the challenges and responsibilities of adoptive parenting.
