Children awaiting adoption
Most of the children awaiting adoption have left their families under difficult circumstances and may have experienced the effects of drug/alcohol misuse during pregnancy or early years. They may have experienced neglect, physical, emotional and/or sexual abuse, poor parenting, a chaotic home environment and changes of carer/parent. Most will have been in foster care and may have had a number of foster carers before being adopted. The children may have also been living with their birth family for some time before any concern came to light and the decision was made to remove them.
